Meet the Governors

Donna Kettle

Co-Opted Governor

I was born and raised in Robin Hoods Bay and attended Fylingdales C of E Primary School from 1969 to 1976. I have worked in education throughout my career after training as a teacher at Durham University. After three Primary Headships I became an Education Adviser in the South working with schools in challenging circumstances. I have also worked as an Adviser in a Multi-Academy Trust before moving back to Fylingthorpe in 2016 and taking up a role as a School Improvement Adviser for North Yorkshire and running my own independent consultancy business. I have a particular interest in Early Years education and school performance data and hold governor responsibility for these areas. My interest in governance at Fylingdales is borne out of my passion and commitment to supporting and enhancing learning for all children who attend the school.

Jo Morris

Foundation Governor at Fylingdales School, with responsibility for PSHE, Pastoral and   RE.

I have lived in the village for six years. My family are regular attenders of St Stephens, where I am also a member of the PCC with additional responsibility for Safeguarding.

Since moving to this area I have been working part time teaching young adults with a wide range of Special Needs, enabling them to gain qualifications for the first time while developing their skills to lead an independent life.

Previously I have held various roles in Education for 35 years, teaching all age groups and management in both secondary and special needs schools.

My last role before taking early retirement was Principal of a Residential Special Needs Girls College in Staffordshire. I am also a fully qualified counsellor; a skill which I have also been able to use effectively within education.

Julie Matthewson

Parent Governor

I am a parent governor. I have one child currently in Year 4 in school and another who has joined Reception in September this year. I feel very lucky that my children have the chance to go to such a friendly village school in an amazing location.
I have been a primary school teacher since 1995 - working in a range of schools in a variety of roles. Currently I work part time as Music Specialist for a large primary school in Whitby.

Wendy Weekes

Co-opted governor

I live in the village and been a governor for many years and have also previously worked at the school as an after school club assistant.  I support the Headteacher with safeguarding and health and safety and also come in to listen to reading in the Early Years.  I often help out with school trips too and have seen the school through many changes.  I think it is a privilege to been involve with school.

Anne Swift

Co-opted Governor

I have been a teacher for 34 years teaching all primary age groups but specialising in Early Years. I trained at the North Riding College of Education in Scarborough and have taught in four North Yorkshire Schools. I have been a Headteacher of a 4 class village school on the wolds and Head of North Yorkshire's largest primary school, Gladstone Road, leading that school through an amalgamation of the Infant and Junior schools.

I have been a teacher governor and am currently a co-opted governor at an infant school. During my career I have mentored newly qualified teachers, organised staff development and training and been an external assessor for Leeds Beckitt University. I have been a SENCo and subject lead for English, Science, Geography, ICT and Assessment.

Always active in my Union, I was elected president of the National Union of Teachers in 2016 and have had the opportunity to visit schools in Finland and Cuba and meet teachers in Canada, Australia, Portugal, Serbia, Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

I regularly speaks on education at conferences and to the media including local radio. Currently I am working part time for the Teachers Consultative Panel, a body which provides a voice for teachers in consultation with the Local Authority.

I am keen to use my experience to support the school to provide the very best for all the children.
